Waterpik Kept Me From Killing My Son

January 21, 2010 by
Filed under Featured, The Coupon Cupboard Recommends

OK, well, I am probably being a bit dramatic but lets face it~braces are EXPENSIVE! Nothing drives me more insane than him not taking care of them. He is 13, he really doesn’t care if he drives me crazy, in fact, I think he rather enjoys it.

I was commiserating with other mothers of brace clad children and I was saying that I should get him a Waterpik. I had one when I was wearing braces (hey, I am not that old people) and I remember it working really well. Of course, I was a girl and I actually cared if I had thing stuck in them but alas…

I was so happy when Waterpik contacted me and asked if I wanted to review one. Strange how I was just talking about it!

He thought the whole concept was “weird” when we first unpacked the Ultra Dental Water Jet it but now he is hooked on it. According to him it is really easy to use and it gets all the “crud” out of the back teeth better than flossing, lol. It has cool attachments that let him brush or ‘floss’.

I don’t care how he describes it as long as he keeps using it! If you have kids in braces I think this is a must have. Here is a $5 off coupon for Waterpik!

10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU

I was so excited when 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU 10th ANNIVERSARY EDITION came out on Blu-Ray this week. Loving our new Blu Ray player and this movie. Heath Ledger at his best (and youngest). Based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew this teenage culture flick had me both of laughing and shedding a few ‘chick flick’ tears. Such a great little break after all the holidays, the timing of the release could not have been more perfect. Go grab a copy and some popcorn and take a little mom break! You deserve it!

Weekend Warriors

September 26, 2009 by

2009-09-18_1705As National Eat Together Week comes to a close, prepare a wholesome yet healthy brunch for the family.  A recent study published by the British Journal of Nutrition shows that people who eat high-quality protein foods for breakfast, like eggs and lean Canadian bacon, had a greater sense of sustained fullness throughout the day.

Try the recipe for Baked Egg with Canadian Bacon, Tomato and Potatoes, which combines Canadian Bacon with potato wedges, tomato and fresh chives in individual ramekins. Each is topped with an egg and half-and-half, baked, then sprinkled with cheese. The savory brunch options pairs well with whole grain toast, fresh fruit and juice.

  • After brunch, plan some weekend activities to do as a group – it’s a chance to reconnect after a hectic week: Encourage computer wizards to find new recipes online (TheOtherWhiteMeat.com is a great place to start!) and help with family meal planning for the next week. When heading to the grocery store, let kids help comparison shop to find the lowest prices.
  • Take the bikes for a spin and enjoy a nice day. Pack a picnic lunch and an outdoor game to enjoy in the grass.
  • Get out the rake and gardening tools and find someone who could use some free yard work. Everyone can pitch in and help.
  • Head to a local farmers’ market to check out what’s in season now. Let the kids pick out a new vegetable or fruit and talk to the farmer about how they grew it.
  • Make sure you have left a comment for all the wonderful recipes you downloaded this week because the $100 giftcard contest closes today!
